JOINT INDUSTRY GROUP FOR PACKAGING SAFETY
Under the name JIG - Joint Industry Group for Packaging Safety, the Swiss Packaging Institute (SVI) maintains its own specialist department with the aim of ensuring the required safety of packaging.
The Joint Industry Group (JIG) for Packaging Safety (hereinafter referred to as JIG) is an association of various interest groups under the leadership of the Swiss Packaging Institute SVI with the intention of advancing work in the area of packaging safety. All relevant interest groups, in particular the packaging industry along the value chain, authorities and law enforcement as well as industry associations, work together to develop economically viable solutions and concepts for the entire packaging industry.
Problems, need for action, solution concepts, etc. are introduced, supported, developed and implemented by the sponsors. The focus is on the idea of supporting the packaging industry with simple and efficient solution concepts and tools in the implementation of safety-related requirements for packaging.
Transfers of substances from the packaging into the filling product are not only undesirable but also prohibited by law. These transfers (migration) are particularly problematic as they can endanger human health and therefore the safety of the filling goods is no longer guaranteed. For this reason, everyone involved in the value creation of packaging is required to avoid these transitions or, if not possible, to assess their harmlessness to health. These activities are summarized under the term “conformity work”.
The purpose of the JIG is to support the industries concerned through its activities. To this end, the JIG focuses on the following three areas:
– developing and communicating expertise along the entire value chain;
– providing a platform for the exchange of information in the value chain;
– promoting exchange and dialog between private sector players and enforcement authorities.

The JIG’s vision is to ensure the safety of all packaging used and placed on the market!
To achieve this vision, the JIG has set itself the following three goals:
– JIG platform
To facilitate and promote the regular exchange of information at the JIG General Assembly.
– Knowledge transfer
To ensure the transfer of knowledge through courses and workshops on the topic of compliance work.
– Toolbox
To support the implementation of compliance work in the value chain through the development and provision of tools (checklists, databases, compliance generator, etc.).
