SPECIAL PRIZE OF THE JURY
Winner
Echovai from Vetropack
World’s first returnable bottles made of thermally tempered lightweight glass (SPA-0036)
Lighter, stronger, more abrasion-resistant: the advantages of thermally tempered lightweight glass have long been exploited in flat glass. Now, for the first time, these advantages can be transferred to three-dimensional hollow glass bodies. This is based on technical innovations in bottle production that were developed in a process lasting several years. This makes it possible to produce returnable bottles that are 30 percent lighter and last longer than conventional ones. This makes an already ecological reusable packaging even significantly more ecological. For the jury, this is a “gamechanger” in packaging glass production, which deserves the special prize awarded for the first time.
