Food waste along the entire supply chain, from production through processing and packaging to the consumer, is and remains a problem of our time. One thing is clear: good packaging and the right packaging are part of the solution.

Not packaging saves resources at first glance – the lack of a protective function for the contents leads to waste of the higher weighted contents. In this regard, it is worth knowing that in an overall ecological balance – which evaluates the contents and packaging – the packaging only accounts for a low 1-digit percentage value.

Even a ban on disposable packaging is not the more ecological solution per se. Although packaging material is saved, the processes involved in a reusable system usually result in a larger ecological footprint.

Packaging is needed for a sustainable life. The Swiss Packaging Institute SVI believes that the most sustainable approach is to conserve resources  and is committed to the circular economy. Packaging should be collected and made available again as a raw material. We are working on this together with our partners and politicians.

What we do:

Packaging makes goods transportable. They are the advertising medium on the shelf, but most importantly: packaging protects the contents and thus counteracts waste and food waste! And that is an important contribution to the ecological footprint in Switzerland! And we work together with our partners to achieve this day after day!
